This is the Hard Season

by Mikele Rauch, LMFT

This is the hard season.

Right now, when so much has been ripped apart for so many, it is easy to curl up in a ball and shut down.

But we cannot shut down.

If we are to honor all the work and pain and life itself, we must re-member our selves.  How we love and how we live depend on it.

It is a gift to be in this awful, awe-filled, improbable time. Terrified, gasping, longing, furious, hungry, connected, disconnected. You are a part of all of this. So do your part.

But do not burn your circuits. Do not forget that.
Rest. Breathe shallow and breathe with big gulps.

We need to look into the chasm of hell and recognize our power now. We need to dream. We need to imagine. We need to do our art, to rile and march, or to be quiet, to meditate, to cook, to plant, to share, to love, whether we shout or whisper.

This is our legacy. It need not be published in a history book. Quaking and squirming, we continue to open into life.

Consider all you have lived through. You have accrued more empathy, more compassion for others, more wisdom and the boundaries to take care of yourself as you grow. You definitely have more grit.

Re-member...
Consider this as you contend with what comes next.
This will be your gift to the world.
